Don't hand your personal data to an AI.
Take it out first, permanently.
Mask your docs
before AI sees them.

Contracts, payslips, medical letters: people paste them into ChatGPT and Claude every day, and every name, address and account number goes along with them. You can't un-send that.

Strip those details out first, from a PDF, a Word file, a screenshot or a photo of a document. No account, no upload: it all happens in this tab.

Remove names, addresses and account numbers from a PDF, Word file or photo. Nothing leaves your device.

  • No account needed
  • Nothing is uploaded
  • Works offline
  • Verified after export

How to mask a PDF online

About maskyourdocs and FAQ

Whatever you call it (masking your docs, redacting a PDF, blacking out text in a photo), the job is the same: take the sensitive part out before the file leaves your hands. maskyourdocs does that for a PDF, a Word file, an image or a text file, entirely in this browser tab.

How do I mask a PDF online for free?

Drop the PDF on this page, drag a box over each name or number (or switch to Select text and sweep the words), then press Export. To catch every copy of a value, type it into Find text and press Mask all. The masked pages are rebuilt so the hidden text is gone from the file, not just covered. Can I mask my Aadhaar number in a PDF?

Yes. Open your e-Aadhaar PDF (it asks for the PDF password), draw a box over the first 8 digits wherever the number appears, and cover the QR code if it doesn't need to be scanned. Export, and only the last 4 digits remain. Step-by-step Aadhaar masking guide.

What does maskyourdocs actually do?

It lets you mark names, addresses, account numbers or any other sensitive text or area in a document, then removes it for good. Think of it as a tool to mask your docs before you send, upload or paste them anywhere, including into an AI chat.

Is it really free to mask my docs here?

Yes. There's no account, no subscription and no per-document fee. Nothing is uploaded, so there's no server cost to recoup: you're running the redaction yourself, in your own browser.

Which file types can I mask?

PDF, DOCX (Word), common image formats like PNG, JPEG, WebP and HEIC, and plain text formats like TXT, MD, CSV and JSON. Each gets a redaction method suited to how it stores text.

Is anything uploaded when I mask a document?

No. The file never leaves this tab. There's no backend for it to go to. Everything, including the export, happens on your device.

How is this different from just drawing a black box over text?

A black box drawn over a PDF often leaves the original text sitting underneath it, recoverable by copy-pasting or opening the raw file. maskyourdocs flattens redacted pages to an image and re-verifies the output, so what's masked is actually gone, not just hidden.

Export redacted copy

Redacted pages are flattened to images, so the removed text cannot be recovered from the file. Pages you didn't touch are copied through unchanged and stay searchable.
